Hethersgill

The stretch to Kircambeck is fairly straightforward. After that continue to Hethersgill by heading right at Askerton Castle, then left onto the B6318 and first right at Knorren Lodge.

There is not lot going on here, it’s a place whose economy has traditionally been fuelled by peat extraction. You can stop for a pint at the Black Lion pub, which belongs to the same folk who run the Drove Inn at nearby Stapleton.

There are various accommodation choices at places such as Walton and Stapleton – none of them exactly on the route, but all worth a stopover to get a real flavour of the area. Two possibilities are Low Luckens and New Pallyards. To reach either, take the route past Hethersgill up to Boltonfellend.
